Summary: | Apocalytpic texts in the Bible – such as the Book of Revelation – are under suspicion to legitimize violence. In dramatic hermeneutics, the life of the non-violent protagonist Jesus of Nazareth becomes the interpretative key to all biblical texts. This hermeneutic has to be substantiated in the discussion of apocalyptic texts that appear to be full of violence. In dramatic perspective the lamb, slaughtered but victorious and as such a Christ-like figure, is at the centre of the Book of Revelation. The entire book can be read with the Christ figure as a starting point. In the context of the hermeneutic 5-act-concept Revelation is an epilogue where in a new situation, in an intensified form and with new images and symbols a message consistent with that of the gospels is communicated. |
