| Résumé: | Since its foundation by Alexander the Great, Alexandria was the economic and cultural hub of the Eastern Mediterranean in Hellenistic and Roman times. Alexandria’s geographical location resulted in a very diverse population. The most important groups of inhabitants were Greeks, Egyptians and Jews. This essay examines the legal and social position of these groups in Alexandria which often jealously defended their privileges against rivalling claims. A short look into the background of the anti-Jewish pogroms under Caligula concludes the study. Seit der Gründung durch Alexander war Alexandria die östliche Drehscheibe der hellenistisch-römischen Mittelmeerwelt, die Metropole des Handels und der Kultur. Die geographische Lage schlug sich nicht zuletzt in einer bunt gemischten Einwohnerschaft nieder. Die wichtigsten, in den Quellen immer wieder genannten Gruppen waren Griechen, Ägypter und Juden. Der Aufsatz untersucht die recht-lichen und sozialen Aspekte des spannungsreichen Zusammenlebens dieser Gruppen, die ihre rechtlichen Privilegien und gesellschaftliche Stellung oft eifersüchtig gegeneinander verteidigten. Ein kurzer Blick auf die Hintergründe und rechtlichen Implikationen der antijüdischen Ausschreitungen unter Caligula schließt den Beitrag ab. |
