Summary: | In Numbers 1–2 there are some interesting anomalies which highlight the Levites and set the focus on them. They are separated in various ways (local, functional) from the Israelite tribes so there is no connection to them. The order of the camp of the Israelite tribes and their order on the march are results of the last words and deeds of Jacob in Genesis 48-49. This connection to Genesis 48–49 also explains the separation and special treatment of the Levites in Numbers 1-2. |
