Description
Summary:This article deals with one of the more difficult questions in Jewish-Christian dialogue, namely the relationship of the Jewish people to the land of Israel, its divergent interpretations in Christianity and the different understandings of the » Holy Land «. While the centrality of the land as a gift by God cannot be underestimated throughout the bible, there are also beginnings for the spiritualization of the relationship to the land which is expressed more and more clearly throughout history. On this basis and on the basis of the conviction of the exceptional relationship of Judaism and Christianity, it is possible to ask more systematically if and in what way it is possible for a land to be holy and to point out some consequences for an interpretation of the promises of the land including their political dimension.
