Summary: | Ceramic tiles with biblical themes had long been forgotten in the memory of Christianity and Society. Their rediscovery at the beginning of the 21st century is a surprising occurrence. The article deals with the emergence, distribution and variety of these biblical tiles as well as with the manufacturing and the models used for the presentation of the biblical themes on those tiles. A closer look is also directed on the selection of the biblical motives in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Finally, a summary is given of the specific profile of the hermeneutics of the biblical tiles. At the end, the question is raised, whether and why these biblical tiles seem to address people again today and what possible reasons might underlie this new emergence of relevance. |
