Zusammenfassung:This book investigates the exile and restoration topos in thirteen episodes of the book of Chronicles: six in 1 Chronicles 1-9 (‘Act 1’) and seven in 1 Chronicles 10-12 Chronicles 36 (‘Act 2’). According to Guy, ‘These thirteen episodes reveal the Chronicler’s perspective on the status of Israel’s restorations following Cyrus’s decree’ (p. xiii). Consequently, his purpose is to research whether in Chronicles ‘was Israel completely restored or whether they are still experiencing exile?’ (ibid.). He adopts ‘a literary-rhetorical approach to reading the exile-restoration topos in the individual accounts and final form narrative shape of Chronicles’ (p. 7, cf. p. 8).
