The fish-centered list of animals (Deut 14:1-21) and the exhortation to pay the temple tithe (Deut 14:22-27) have been combined, distilled and modernized to form much of the episode about paying the temple tax and finding it in a fish (Matt 17:24-27). And the subsequent exhortation to avoid sin and grant remission, especially concerning debts and slaves (Deut 15:1-15), has become the subsequent exhortation about sin and remission, with a parable involving debts and slavery (Matt 18:15-35). The texts show several connecting details. L'analyse du discours en Matt 17, 22 à 18, 35 montre que deux de ses passages les plus problématiques contiennent une réinterprétation de Deut. 14 et 15. La liste des animaux de Deut 14, 1-21, où le poisson occupe la place centrale, et l'exhortation à payer la dîme au temple, Deut. 14, 22-27, ont été combinées, affinées et actualisées pour former, en Matt. 17, 24-27, le gros de l'épisode sur l'impôt au temple et sa découverte dans un poisson. L'exhortation suivante, d'éviter le péché et d'effectuer la remise des gages, notamment sur les dettes et les esclaves (Deut. 15, 1-15), est devenue, en Matt. 18, 15-35, l'exhortation sur le péché et la rémission, avec une parabole sur les dettes et l'esclavage.
