Summary: | Bauckham's goal with this monumental study is to provide a satisfactory category (eyewitness testimony) where theology and history may meet, instead of them parting company as in most historical reconstructions of the life of Jesus (5). According to Bauckham the period between the historical Jesus and the writing of the Gospels was spanned, not by a process of anonymous community transmission (as commonly assumed by form critics), but by the continuing presence and testimony of the eyewitnesses of Jesus' life. |
