Description
Summary:This article sets out to show that certain postulates put forward by Hupfeld a hundred and fifty years ago are still valid today. Hupfeld an exponent of Vermittlungstheologie managed to demonstrate the interaction between biblical faith and the scientific spirit, and hence the value of the historical-critical method for old Testament research. Hupfeld made a major contribution to the science of introduction. He maintained that it should not be called "introduction to biblical literature" but rather "history of biblical literature". It should be a purely historical study of the development of the text from its origin (prehistory) through the centuries, including the canonical stage and even the various modern translations of the text produced by the various churches.
