The volume contains contributions to the origin of the Bible, the understanding of the scripture, the old and the new covenant. »One Lord, one faith, one baptism« (Ephesians 4:5) and Jesus’ prayer »that they may all be one« (John 17:21) are often quoted in ecumenical contexts, but their significance for the unity of the church is hardly exploited. From both writings new perspectives are opened, which Cardinal Walter Kasper recognizes in his foreword as important steps on the path to unity. The institutionalisation of the ministries in the New Testament is highlighted as well as Luther’s distinguished use of scripture and the relevance of his understanding of the church. The hymn from Col 1:15-20 is unfolded as a new song of Christian creation theology and ethics. |
