Le sermon fut prêché hors d'Hippone, peut-être à Carthage, le 11 janvier 404, fête du martyr Salvius, s'il se confond avec une allocution que Bède évoque dans son Martyrologe. En tout état de cause, il est de peu postérieur à l'entrée solennelle de l'empereur Honorius à Rome à l'automne 403. | ||

Now, in addition to a significant indirect tradition (Bede, Sedulius Scottus, Rabanus Maurus), we have at our disposal no fewer than fifteen manuscripts, fourteen of which were collated and classified for this new critical edition. The sermon was preached outside of Hippo, perhaps in Carthage, in 404, on the occasion of the martyr Salvius' feast (January 11th), if it coincides with the one mentioned in Bede's Martyrology. In any case, it was delivered a little later than the autumn of 403, when Honorius' solemn entry in Rome took place. | ||
