Description
Summary:The meaning and context of "grace and truth" in John 1:14—18 The meaning of a word or phrase must be determined in its immediate context. This is a very sound hermeneutical principle, but it cannot be absolutised as will be pointed out in this article where the principle is applied to the concept "grace and truth" in John 1:14—18. As will become clear this phrase gathers the wealth of its meaning from outside the text itself. Only from its extra-textual context can the true meaning, which focuses on the faithfulness of God to His covenant, be appreciated.
