Description
Summary:This paper analyzes the concept of covenant in its various aspects as it is treated especially in various books of the Old Testament as well as in some texts of the Ancient Near East, Qumran, some pseudepigraphic texts, and some ancient authors such as Philo and Josephus. In fact, it is one of the most significant concepts within the Scripture, and since it is present in many books, it offers an interpretative key for reading the Scripture as a whole. The study examines the various articles of the volume "Covenant - Concepts of Berit, Diatheke, and Testamentum", an edited volume with the most recent contributions on the concept of covenant. There are here a summary of the contributions, a critical examination of these positions, and a status quaestionis on this concept. Furthermore, a general evaluation of the concept on the whole volume is offered as well.
