| Summary: | The present paper deals with the link between the lexeme 'vryt' and the so called covenant or relationship formula of which a formal definition is given. Attention is paid to the scholarly literature on the link between the relationship formula and the Hebrew word 'vryt'. Hereafter the texts containing both the formula and the lexeme 'vryt' are discussed. It is concluded that the link between both items is more important for our understanding of the formula than for the explanation of the term 'vryt'.
