Description
Summary:This book, a Habilitationsschrift submitted to the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Karl-Franzens-Universitaet in Graz, is concerned not with the way in which women are portrayed in Genesis, but with the way in which contemporary scholarship. particularly German scholarship, portrays women in Genesis. Martin Noth, in Fischer's eyes, sees the matriarchs of Genesis as little more than "literary ornaments," while Claus Westermann views the matriarchal traditions as preliterary memories of a long-forgotten past.
