Summary: | It has long been recognized that the Syriac 3rd person enclictic pronoun had different functions in different contexts. The present study contributes to current research on the functions of the enclitic pronoun by comparing and contrasting its use when attached to the interrogatives ‘what/how/why?’ and ‘who?’ in the Syriac New Testament Peshitta of the Gospels. The results of this study demonstrate that the enclitic pronoun in the expression + enclitic functions differently from its counterpart in + enclitic. |
