| Résumé: | This essay raises questions about Richard Hays's book in three main areas. First, there is a discussion of the possible limits to metalepsis, and when it may be appropriate to decline to find metalepsis in a biblical citation. Second, there are questions about the nature of readers and reading in relation to appropriating some of Hays's proposals. Third, something is said about the respective roles of historical and figural ways of reading the OT, and questions are asked about the bearing of the conceptuality of OT prophecy on the Gospel depictions of Jesus. |
