| Summary: | The perspective on the Pastoral Epistles presented in this paper differs from the established scholarly consensus and moves beyond the controversy concerning pseudonymity versus authenticity. After examining the development of the Corpus Pastorale' theory and clarifying some methodological questions, the paper argues for an interpretation of the Pastorals separately from each other and in their specific relation to Paul and his tradition. Significant examples indicate the possibility of understanding 2 Timothy and Titus as authentic letters of Paul, whereas 1 Timothy proves to belong to the second century ce. From this perspective, many otherwise contradictory aspects of the history of interpretation regain their rationale. Die hier zur Diskussion gestellte Perspektive auf die Pastoralbriefe unterscheidet sich grundlegend vom etablierten Konsens der Forschung und weist über die klassischen Alternativen hinsichtlich Pseudonymität und Authentizität hinaus. Nach einer Bestandsaufnahme der Theorie eines Corpus Pastorale' und der Klärung methodischer Fragen werden Argumente für eine individuelle Interpretation der Briefe in ihrer spezifischen Relation zu Paulus und der Paulustradition entfaltet. Anhand signifikanter Beispiele wird die Möglichkeit erörtert, 2 Tim und Tit als authentische Briefe des Paulus zu verstehen und 1 Tim als ein Schreiben des 2. Jahrhunderts n. Chr. zu interpretieren. Unter dieser Perspektive kommen viele Aspekte der Auslegungsgeschichte neu zu ihrem Recht, die sich sonst eher als problematisch erweisen. |
