Summary: | The fact that Professor Notger Slenczka is critical of the canonicity of the Old Testament and of its continued use by the Christian Church has led to a major controversy in Germany. In a new - but in places not very easy - book Slenczka has collected his contributions to the discussion about the status of Israel's Scriptures and about the covenant between God and Israel. The book does contain sermons and meditations on Old Testament texts. This extended review makes critical notes in the margin of a book by a self-confessed liberal who does not really accept any Scripture as normative. |
