Summary: | The goal of this article is not to repeat in detail the exegesis of texts, but rather to reflect on the two types of approaches — theological and sociohistorical — used to study the ecclesiology of the Letters attributed to Paul. Along the way, we note that the distinction between the theological and the sociohistorical also governed the ecclesiology of these Letters, and that the research on the connections between equality and hierarchy in the churches founded by the apostle, on the ecclesiology of the Pastoral Letters, and, in particular, on the οἶκος ecclesial model of the Pastoral Letters, must no longer ignore this fundamental distinction. Greater awareness of the importance of methodology will certainly help the exegesis of the Pauline Letters to make further progress in the XXIst century. |
