Summary: | This paper analyses seven preserved sermons that have been delivered at the opening of the annual sessions of the Superior Consistory during the Second Empire, from 1854 to 1865. The preachers from Strasbourg, Montbéliard, and Paris insist on the responsibility of the members. They all deplore the theological divisions between liberals, orthodox, and pietists. Strangely enough, there are only few references to current events, perhaps out of political prudence, except for the traditional opposition to the Roman Catholics. |
