Summary: | The article highlights Alexandrian philosophical life in Imperial times concentrating on the example of Ammonios Sakkas. The focus is not on his figure or the reconstruction of his philosophical doctrine, but on his students and their position in the religious and intellectual discourses of their time. A picture of an open network emerges, in which philosophy offers intellectuals from various religious backgrounds a way of thinking that distinctively informs them, regardless of their respecttive religious affiliation. |
