Maßarbeit im Markus-Aufbau: stichometrische Analyse und theologische Interpretation ; Teil 2
Mark’s Gospel is structured analogous to an ancient tragedy. An elaborate formal disposition can be reconstructed by means of stichometry. Prologue (1:1-13) and epilogue (16:1-8) are framing five “acts”: 1:14-3:6; 3:7-8:21; 8:22-10:45; 10:46-13:37; 14:1-15:47. By using a “stichos” of 15 syllables (t...

Summary: | Mark’s Gospel is structured analogous to an ancient tragedy. By using a “stichos” of 15 syllables (the ancient standard measure of Greek prose) the total size amounts of 48x34 = 1632 stichoi; the Galilee-section (1:14-8:21) and the Judea-section (10:1-16:8) e.g. each comprise exactly 21x34 = 714. The tabulated outline reveals several concentric structures and proportions of the golden mean. This shows literary ambitions. The author (John Mark?) seems theologically very sophisticated when he distinguishs between “Christ” (King of Jews) and “Son of God” (universal lordship), between pre-Easter “Beginning of the Gospel” and “Gospel” proper which was proclaimed on Easter morning. Through relecture Galilee becomes the place where the Risen One appears. |
