Grâce à une forme peu connue du texte du lot de Juda en Canaan selon Josué, on montre par quelques détours qu'Édom a toujours été proche, justement en Idumée. Mais il y avait la menace d'un yahwisme édomite d'origine locale, dont on discerne quelques traces, tour à tour paisibles ou belliqueuses. The fate of Esau-Edom, the twin Brother of Jacob, is somewhat blurred in Scripture. During the Hellenistic period, it became Idumea, at the southern border of Judea. But previously it seems to have been expelled eastward, far away from Canaan and the kingdom of Juda. However, by taking advantage of a special version of the book of Joshua and the allotment of the land given to Juda, it is possible to show, by a circuitous method involving the Yehud province of Nehemiah, that Edom was always close, that is, Idumea. Behind the technicalities, there was the threat of an Edomite Yahwism of local origin. |
