| Sumario: | The article offers some notes on the inculturated reading of the Venerable Card. Van Thuân through the analysis of his two main courses of spiritual exercises to the Roman Curia in 2000 and to the Legionaries of Christ in 2002, i.e. in the last year of his life. First of all, it highlights some important aspects of the Venerable's attitude towards the Word of God. Next, it examines, by way of illustration, the original reading of a biblical passage, that of Jesus' genealogy, which Card. Van Thuân proposed in his preaching. Finally, the paper analyzes Card. Van Thuân's vision on forgiveness and love to notice the evangelical origin and foundation of these virtues he understood and practiced in a heroic way, particularly during the dark years of imprisonment. The performed analysis helps to distill at the end at least four important characteristics of the way of reading the Bible by Card Van Thuân, which appear useful for cultivating a genuine biblical spirituality today.
