Summary: | An interesting series of shared motifs and theological nuances are revealed when materials and themes from the Qur'an that relate to Jesus and John the Baptist are compared with their counterparts in Luke's Gospel. Some previously acknowledged similarities between passages in the Qur'an and the non-canonical gospels are revisited, with attention given to likely background influences from Luke's Gospel. The implications of the study for future perceptions of Luke's Gospel and for traditional claims about the origins of the Qur'an are briefly considered. |
