Summary: | Recent New Testament scholarship appears to have rediscovered the phenomenon of faith. What is largely ignored is the specifically Pauline notion that faith »came« and that it »was revealed« (Gal 3:23, 25). Paul obviously regards faith not only as a human disposition, but also as a supra-individual event - in marked contrast to everyday language. The article seeks to substantiate this thesis against the backdrop of the history of scholarship and in view of current debates in Pauline exegesis. |
