Summary:This paper seeks to place cooking and cooks within the realm of skilled labour and craft as well as to assess their wider economic and social implications for the later Uruk period. In doing so, analyses of technomorphological characteristics and traces from use-wear on vessels from Chogha Mish (Southwest Iran) dating to the Uruk period are compared with results from cooking experiments and supplementing evidence.
