| Summary: | Biblical subject matters, narratives, and protagonists still form an inexhaustible repertoire for art through the ages. In journalism, such Christian art based on biblical motifs is used, even beyond the reporting on religion. This article shows how images and their meanings are being transformed both socio-culturally and historically. Thus, it becomes obvious how biblical material and characters provide a cultural repertoire of images in journalism. This will be illustrated with a case study, examining the motifs of creation on the covers and in the cover stories of Spiegel, Stern, and Bunte from 1949 to the present. |
