Summary: | The reception history of the biblical prophets offers a rich field of literary research. This article discusses the resurgence of prophecy in contemporary lyrics, which is prominently represented in Siegmund Kleinl’s collection of poems PropheZeit. Prophecy tends to flourish in times of political ferment, where it functions as a form of political rhetoric. One of the most challenging but invigorating aspects of Kleinl’s poems is the relentless criticism of current political and social conditions. This paper examines how language, rhetorical devices, and form go together with the prophetic mode and how Kleinl’s poems reveal different perspectives of biblical prophecy. |
