| Summary: | The dynamic relationship between human repentance and divine mercy is a long standing theological question. Biblical research often refers to Hos 11, whereYHWH – despite Israel’s lack of willingness to repent – withdraws his anger and showsrepentance, i.e. gives mercy. This essay seeks to explain the seemingly contradictory statement of God’s hidden repentance in Hos 13-14 as a modifying addition to Hos 11 and, thus, sheds new light on the biblical notion of divine mercy. Das dynamische Verhältnis zwischen menschlicher Umkehr und göttlichem Erbarmen ist eine uralte theologische Frage. Die alttestamentliche Wissenschaft verweist oft auf Hos 11, wo YHWH trotz fehlender Umkehrbereitschaft Israels seinen Zorn zurückzieht und Reue zeigt, also Erbarmen schenkt. Der vorliegende Aufsatz versucht, die dazu scheinbar widersprüchliche Aussage von der verborgenen Reue Gottes in Hos 13-14 als modifizierende Ergänzung von Hos 11 zu plausibilisieren, und wirft damit neues Licht auf die biblische Redevon der Reue Gottes. |
