Summary: | This monograph is a revision of Alma Brodersen’s doctoral thesis, which was completed at Oxford under the supervision of Prof. John Barton. The primary focus of her thesis is the question of whether the ‘Final Hallel’, Psalms 146-50, was deliberately composed together as an ending for the Psalter, or whether they were originally disparate psalms, edited together to form a coda. In the Qumran Psalms Scroll 11QPsa, the arrangement of the fourth and fifth books of Psalms is quite different from the MT. In the LXX, the concluding psalm is Ps. 151, and there are two parts to Ps. 147. These facts alone provide a strong foundation for challenging the assumption that they were originally composed as a unit. |
