Summary: | Hegel once made the quip: ‘Schelling carried on his philosophical education before the public, and signalled each new stage with a new treatise.’ If we substitute ‘theological’ for ‘philosophical’, it is difficult not to recall this bon mot when we read through this book. Professor Allison has written an impressive array of books, not least on the Gospels. But here he offers the personal confession that whether he considers Robert Funk and John Dominic Crossan, or N.T. Wright and Joachim Jeremias, their diversity of conclusions perplex and confuse him. |
