Summary: | ‘Though interest in the use of metaphor in the Hebrew Bible has gained momentum in recent years, there is, to date, no investigation which concentrates exclusively on the animal metaphors in the book of Jeremiah’ (blurb). Therefore, Benjamin A. Foreman has taken upon him the task of uncovering the metaphors—or more precisely—the animal metaphors used about Israel in this revised version of his 2009 doctoral thesis., After the compulsory introduction to metaphors studies—a very instructive and readable introduction, it should be added—and to his method of analysis, Foreman presents his examination in three large chapters and a brief conclusion. Already the table of contents reveals a systematic approach, and this impression holds throughout the work, and reveals a meticulous scholar. |
