Description
Résumé:This study re-examines the first representation of the Arch mosaics at S. Maria Maggiore in Rome, interpreted as the Annunciation. Contrary to the common opinion which related this image to apocryphal texts, I think it has to be connected with the textual tradition of the induere carnem. The theological message of the mosaic is an attempt to refute Pelagian propositions, asserting that the virginal flesh of Christ has not be injured by sin.
