Description
Summary:This paper discusses the transmission of the apocrypha concerning the birth and youth of Mary in the Latin West, to point out differences and resemblances with the transmission of the Virtutes apostolorum. It focuses especially on the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew. Concerning the relation between text transmission and editorial method, it argues that the traditional presentation of the edition published in SA 9 was the appropriate ratio edendi for a text that had an intricate but recognizable transmission history.
