Summary: | The Protevangelion of James was composed in the second century, but from the fourth century onwards, writers reproduced parts of this apocryphal work, although they dissociated themselves from it either by not acknowledging it as one of their sources or by altering the narrative’s details.1 Writers have attempted to add historicity to the text in order to signify the events that served the Divine Oikonomia, which resulted in variations of the Greek original text. These additions or alterations to the original narrative that reveal the gradual interest towards the early life of Mary and demonstrate the ways Christian texts appreciated the apocryphal parents of the Virgin from the fourth century onwards. À partir du ive siècle, le Protévangile de Jacques, composé au iie siècle, fait l’objet de reprises par des auteurs qui prennent leurs distances par rapport à cet apocryphe, soit en ne le reconnaissant pas comme l’une de leurs sources, soit en modifiant des détails de la narration. Ces auteurs ont cherché à ajouter du crédit au texte en en développant des motifs propres à l’inscrire dans l’Oikonomia divine, ce qui a provoqué des variations par rapport au texte grec original. Ces additions ou altérations du récit original révèlent cependant un intérêt croissant pour la vie de Marie et illustrent les différentes manières qu’ont eues les auteurs chrétiens à partir du ive siècle d’apprécier les parents apocryphes de la Vierge. |
