Summary: | In the first seven verses of psalm 82, Yahweh is not presiding over the divine assembly, as is usually maintained, but rather is a member of the assembly who charges the rest of the gods with abuse of their office (misrule of the world) and announces their downfall. Those verses are the "myth", to which the call for God to assume rule of the world (v. 8) is the liturgical response. |
