Similarly in the case of the word קלוֹן, ‘degradation’, the euphemistic tones remain only a possibility. The parallel verse 22 also does not speak directly about a scene of rape. The metaphorical stripping of the female personified city, both in the Mesopotamian lamentations as in the book of Jeremiah, refers rather to the destruction of the city’s temple by polluting and uncovering its sanctuary.\n4207 Il n’y a pas de raisons convaincantes pour voir en Jr 13,26 une simple image de violence sexuelle.
