| Summary: | Ex 3:14 is a verse whose possible philosophical and metaphysical meaning hasbeen the subject of a controversial debate for quite a long time. The present paper argues thatEx 3:14 can be interpreted as the result of a Hellenistic influence on the development of thebiblical names of God. According to our interpretation, Ex 3:14 expresses an aspect of God’sbeing that is hardly ever mentioned in Holy Scripture, i.e. his autarchy. This does not mean thatGod ceases to be the one who engages in a history of salvation, but only that he is not com-pletely reducible to his redemptive relationship with humanity. Ex 3,14 ist ein Vers, dessen mögliche philosophisch-metaphysische Bedeutung seit langem kontrovers diskutiert wird. Der vorliegende Aufsatz vertritt die These, dass Ex 3,14 als hellenistisch inspirierte Fortschreibung des biblischen Gottesnamens gedeutet werden kann, die einen in der Heiligen Schrift sonst kaum thematisierten Aspekt des göttlichen Wesens zum Ausdruck bringt, nämlich seine Autarkie. Damit würde der Umstand betont, dass Gott zwar durchaus der heilsgeschichtlich Handelnde ist und bleibt, aber nicht zur Gänze in dieser heilsgeschichtlichen Relationalität aufgeht. |
