| Summary: | Plusieurs mosaïques des églises de Syrie du Nord, remontant au ve et au vie s., comportent des scènes paradisiaques. Celles-ci sont disposées dans la nef centrale, des annexes ou des baptistères. Certains décors sont inspirés d’épisodes de l’Ancien Testament, comme Adam donnant leurs noms aux animaux ou Adam et Ève au Paradis terrestre. D’autres font référence au Nouveau Testament, ainsi les représentations de la Jérusalem céleste. Il existe aussi des images allégoriques du Paradis, constituées de motifs mentionnés dans le Nouveau Testament ou par les Pères de l’Église, comme les deux cerfs ou agneaux affrontés de part et d’autre d’un vase ou les deux agneaux ou poissons affrontés de part et d'autre d’un arbre fruitier. Toutes ces images évoquent probablement la doctrine du baptême et de la résurrection. Il se peut donc que leur diffusion sur les mosaïques des sanctuaires de Syrie du Nord à la période byzantine soit liée à l’importance que revêtait cette théologie pour les chrétiens de la région, à l’unisson des écrits des Pères de l’Église. The iconography of baptism on the mosaics of Apamene churches in the fifth and sixth centuriesSome floor mosaics of northern Syria churches from the fifth and sixth centuries, feature paradisiac scenes. They are arranged in the central nave, annexes or baptisteries. Some are inspired by episodes of the Old Testament, such as Adam giving their names to animals or Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Others refer to the New Testament, for instance the representations of the heavenly Jerusalem. There are also allegorical images of Paradise, made up of motifs mentioned in the New Testament or by the Fathers of the Church, such as the two deer or lambs faced on both sides of a vase or the two lambs or fish faced on both sides of a fruit tree. All these images probably evoke the dogmas of baptism and resurrection. It may therefore be that their diffusion on the mosaics of the sanctuaries of northern Syria during the Byzantine period was linked to the importance of this theology for the Christians of the region, in accordance to the writings of the Fathers of the Church. تصوير التعميد على اللوحات الفسيفسائية قي كنائس أفاميا بين القرنين الخامس والسادساحتوت اللوحات الفسيفسائية في المباني الكنسية في شمال سوريا ما بين القرنين الخامس والسادس على مشاهد متنوعة للجنة، بعض التزيينات كان مستوحى من صور العهد القديم (كمشهد أدم يسمي الحيوانات أو أدم وحواء في الجنة الأرضية)، ويستوحى بعضها من العهد الجديد كتصوير مملكة القدس السماوية. وهناك أيضاً مشاهد تصويرية للجنة: كمشهد الغزالين أو الحملين المتقابلين أمام جرة معدنية وكذلك مشهد الحملين أو السمكتين المتقابلين أمام شجرة فواكه. من الممكن أن كل هذه الأشكال كانت رمزاً لعقيدة التعميد والقيامة، وربما يعود انتشار هذا النوع من المشاهد عل الفسيفساء في كنائس شمال سورية في الفترة البيزنطية إلى أهمية هذه الطقوس بالنسبة للمسيحيين في المنطقة بالتزامن مع كتابات آباء الكنيسة. |
