Summary: | Comprehension is a very complicated process. The reason for the different interpretations of a specific text more often than not lies in the different socioeconomic and histo-rical backgrounds of the interpreters. South African interpreters of the Bible should be constantly aware of the danger of projectionism in interpretation. We are working in a fertile climate for misunderstandings and are in grave need of a critical hermeneutic which will consciously incul-culate an awareness of cultural and historical differences among exegetes. This is the only way to end fundamen-truistic hostilities and achieve real communication in the field of theology. |
