| Summary: | A detailed analysis of the theological-musical thought of Isidore of Seville has been repeatedly ignored by critics, a fact that has meant that the state of the art on the subject is practically non-existent. For this reason, the aim of this paper is fourfold. Firstly, to establish with precision the aforementioned state of the question. Secondly, to systematise the study of Isidorean theological-musical thought within the totality of his musical thought so that the former can be studied exhaustively and in a generalised manner in the future. Thirdly, to locate, classify and introduce for the first time all the liturgical-musical texts of Isidore of Seville with a view to their subsequent study in future publications. Fourthly, to present, also for the first time, some of the most relevant ideas of Isidore's theological-musical thought as an example of the proposed systematisation and as a starting point for the establishment of future lines of research. |
