Description
Summary:The story of Peter’s call in John (1,40-42) is peculiar for several reasons. Instead of focusing on Peter, this essay takes up the text with a view to its christological dimension. It demonstrates that individual christological traits portrayed here foreshadow some of the typical Johannine christological themes. Although usually titled 'Peter’s call', the unit might also be named 'The First Demonstration of Jesus’ Divine Qualities'. Jesus’ divinity is subtly evoked here, especially by a transference to Jesus of qualities attributed to God in the OT.
