| Summary: | O artigo apresenta um panorama dos padrões de representação iconográfica de deu- sas sul levantinas do Período do Ferro I-III, i.e., a região atualmente ocupada pelos estados modernos de Israel, Jordânia e Palestina no período de, aproximadamen- te,1130—520 aEC. Destarte, após discutir questões metodológicas na utilização de fontes visuais dessa região e período, o artigo discute duas das principais tensões hermenêuticas do estudo de deusas, especificamente, a conceituação do "feminino", geralmente essencializado, e do "divino", geralmente "monolatrizado" na história e arqueologia da religião sul levantina antiga. A partir da discussão conceitual, cinco complexos de ideias advindos da iconografia são discutidos, demonstrando a onipre- sença e ação multifacetada de deusas em diversos domínios da vida social e privada. The article presents an overview of the patterns of iconographic representation of Southern Levantine goddesses from the Iron Age I-III, i.e., the region occupied by the modern states of Israel, Jordan, and Palestine from approximately 1130-520 BCE. After discussing methodological aspects concerning the use of visual data from this region and period, the paper discusses two of the main hermeneutical tensions in the study of goddesses in the history and archaeology of ancient Southern Levantine religion: the concept of “women,” typically essentialized, and the concept of “divi-ne,” typically “monolatrized.” From this methodological and conceptual discussion, five complexes of ideas arising from iconography are discussed, demonstrating the pervasiveness and multifaceted action of goddesses in various domains of private and social life. |
