Description
Summary:This study attempts to demonstrate the many areas of verbal and conceptual similarity between 1 Peter and the middle recension letters of Ignatius of Antioch. Particular distinctive features of 1 Peter which do not appear in other early Christian texts prior to the early second century are featured in the letters of Ignatius. These include the use of λίθοι in the ecclesiological metaphor of the temple and the description of God as 'overseer'. This significant similarity suggests that the language and ideas of 1 Peter were known to Ignatius.
