Summary: | The saying, “I will deliver like the Hebrew women” is commonly used among Nigerian Christian pregnant women (NCPW). The saying is a coinage from a biblical narrative recorded in Exodus 1:15–19. In Exodus 1:19, Hebrew women delivery (HWD) implies a spontaneous vaginal delivery, without the assistance of midwives. Among NCPW, HWD refers to “vaginal delivery” (VD), whether aided or unaided. Many NCPW express a strong desire to have a VD. Consequently, when there are medical conditions which indicate that they should have a Caesarean section (CS), some NCPW refuse to heed medical advice; they resort to patronising various prayer houses. |
