Summary:Theology and ethics in the letter to Philemon: An attempt at giving an account The criticism levelled by Smit against the attempts of New Testament scholars to treat the ethics of the books of the New Testament are dealt with under the headings of "ethos and ethics"; "Biblical ethics"; "the tasks of New Testament ethics"; and "the teaching of the Bible". In order to give an account of the work done by New Testament scholars the ethics of Paul in the letter to Philemon is discussed After a brief summary of the argument of Philemon, the request of this letter is analysed from the viewpoint of ethical argumentation, concluding with remarks on theology and ethics in Philemon.
