Description
Summary:The communicative function of comparison in the prophetic utterances in the book of Hosea is investigated. Simile and metaphor are descriptionbed as subsets of analogy, and the ways in which meaning is expressed or augmented through the use of these tropes are explored. The importance of inter alia, semantic tension between the referents, connotation, association and culture is descriptionbed and some of the images in Hosea are explained as speech acts which were used to inform, to express attitudes or elicit emotions, to argue, et cetera.
