Description
Summary:In this paper the possibility of using an ancient text to voice an opinion on questions of our time is argued. It seems that the possibility can be realised, provided that a workable reading strategy and a responsible hermeneutics are implemented. The text of Jeremiah 27-28 has been selected to serve as illustration of the argument. In the quest for the relevance of the chapters in question, the dynamics of change are also examined. From the discussion it appears that issues like a person's view of God, faith tradition, a realistic world-view, and history, all play a determinative role in the process of social change. Jeremiah 27-28 challenges the reader experiencing change to re-evaluate established personal viewpoints.
